GWB is on a fresh start! Join us for the 2011-2012 Trip Info-sessions. We will hold two meetings – on Wednesday (Oct. 5th) and Thursday (Oct. 6th). Come and find out more about GWB’s initiatives and projects, application process and requirements for the 2011-2012 trip (tentatively planned for the week before spring semester begins). Sample GWB Donations Request Letter

Most fundraising for trips is done through letter writing. You can write letters to family, friends, or even local businesses. If you write enough you may be able to cover the cost of your trip even if you only receive small donations – they add up quicker than you think!

Welcome to GWB! We can’t wait to meet you all so please come on time to the next general meeting on Tuesday, March 16. It will be held in 106 Dwinelle at 7:30 pm. We will be going over very important information about the trip, fundraising and committees. Please contact Andrew or Haejin if you will not be able to make it or can only make part of it. Please come even if you will be late.

Team leader position: If you applied to be a team leader, there will be interviews before the meeting on Tuesday so please come early.

Important reminder: Security deposits of $150 must be made soon in order to reserve a seat on the plane. Please read the instructions below on how to make deposits online. Thanks.

Instructions for making the security deposit on the fundraising website:
1. Register online at http://globalbrigades.org/
2. Click “Support Now” on the left menu
3. Scroll down and click the maroon link: “Support Global Brigades or Direct Donate”
4. Click Join Brigade and look for UC Berkeley MAY
*Note: this option won’t be available until after the weekend, so please check back on Monday
5. Make a security deposit (for airfare) of $150.00 by Thursday, March 18, *10pm*
6. Use this link to fundraise or directly pay the remainder of your fees!

Finally! The summer 2010 application is here. I’m sure everyone has been waiting for this. Please register with Scribd (it will take 2 minutes – it’s very easy) and download the document. Then fill it out and send it in by March 7, 3:00pm via email. One clarification: the personal statement questions should be answered in a total of 600 words.That means do NOT give 600 word answers for each question – it will not help you to be verbose. We are looking for concise, honest answers that show your passion for helping underprivileged communities and your willingness to be open to different perspectives. Interested in international development? Interested in volunteering abroad?

Check out Global Water Brigades at our infosession on February 25th! This summer, we will be working on clean-water access in a rural village in Honduras, where much of the population currently does not have access to clean water. Check us out to hear more about this summer’s service trip. We will also explain the application procedure so be sure to be there.

Stop by the Global Brigades table for more information about our summer 2010 trip to Honduras. And the first 100 people who come will receive an awesome Global Brigades t-shirt. So come check us out on Sproul, we will be available from 10am to 2pm to tell you more about Global Water Brigades and the other chapters.
