Sing-along-song? (example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AZfvr7K5ajc)

Anyway, I want to thank everyone for working so hard to make the Winter 2010 trip happen. We all had so much fun at our meetings, including our wonderful potluck. I know we weren’t as organized as we’d liked to be, but I can assure you that the staff worked hard to present essential material and knowledge. Thus, if you feel bewildered at times, don’t be afraid – you have each other to lean on. I hope that you guys take with you on this trip a sense of wild adventure into the unknown. I wish you all the best and I want to see all of you come back to help GWB become a strong, permanent student organization at Berkeley. Have a safe and awe-inspiring trip! -Ann

P.S. Here’s some last minute homework! Print this handout below and read it on the plane. This a project specific that was given to the summer 2009 brigade, but your project will contain most of these aspects (excluding the dam and conduction line construction). So read it carefully and consider the different factors that must come together to create a sustainable water treatment system, including infrastructure, water treatment standards, community involvement, culture, hygiene, and education.

Fundraising

I hope everyone is enjoying their winter break. We recently received a request from GWB staff for additional fundraising of $100 by each volunteer going on the winter trip. This is not mandatory but we will greatly appreciate it if you can all contact your friends and relatives to cover extra costs that have come up in the project you will be working on in Honduras. Below is the original email received by Haejin:

Message from Suzanne

Hope you’re all getting ready and excited for your upcoming brigades. Ben, Joel, and I can’t wait! We finished our project in Zurzular with 18 students from DePaul University. It was incredible to see water entering homes that have never had a connection to the system. The three of us will be going back tomorrow to do some follow up work.

As we’ve been preparing for this project, we’re realizing that because Los Pajarillos is such a large community in such great need, it will cost much more than we had anticipated. With that being said, I have a request for all of you. Each club has been doing a great job so far in planning for the brigades but it would be great if you could all make a final push in fundraising efforts, trying to* get more than the 100 dollars of project money* included in your in-country costs. Send out emails, Facebook messages, and call people on the phone. Pajarillos is a community that is excited to work with your groups on this project and I know we all want to make sure their needs are met.
